NYCAST® sheet, rod or tube are made from Cast Nylon 6, one of the oldest and most widely used machinable plastics. NYCAST® is available in a wide variety of grades and can be customized to suit your application.

Standard grades include NYCAST® 6PA which possesses high crystallinity as well as high compression strength and impact resistance. 6PA is available unfilled or filled with MoS₂ a solid lubricant. 6PA is often selected to replace metals in machined parts applications. The XHA grade adds to heat stability so there is a slower loss of physical properties as temperatures increase. Cast Nylon Limited states that NYCAST® XHA can function at approximately 10% higher temperatures than standard grade nylon.

NYLOIL was created in the US over 35 years ago and to this day NYLOIL remains unmatched. The manufacturing process used to create NYLOIL infuses oil all the way through the nylon material creating a high crystalline and internally homogeneously lubricated polymer. the end result is a machinable nylon with high strength and enhanced wear along with reduced friction provided by the oil filler. Because the oil is all through the nylon it will never wear off as a surface applied lubricant would.

NYCAST® CP 6/12 is designed for applications requiring additional toughness of the material. NYCAST® CP is a copolymer of Caprolactam and Laurinlactam. It was originally developed for use in the oil and gas industry as a material for ball valve seats. In terms of cost and performance NYCAST® CP is a falls between NYCAST® 6 and NYCAST® 12. NYCAST® CP has excellent dimensional stability and elongation. The standard color is a recoginzable bright yellow. This has made it a popular choice for wobbler bx inserts and coupling boxes in the cold rolling steel industry. It is also a common choice for mandrels covers in paper tube manufacturing.

FG or Food Grade NYCAST® is FDA compliant and suitable for applications where the nylon comes into direct contact with foods. This cast nylon is very high wearing and is often chosen to replace stainless steel in applications where friction is not a concern. Where friction can be an issue NYLOIL FG is an FDA compliant nylon that is suitable for food processing applications where lubricated parts are needed and they will be in contact with foods. NYCAST® FG materials has excellent vibration resistance. It also resists becoming brittle and is chemical resistant. NYCAST® FG is easy to machine and it is abrasion resistant and does not deteriorate easily.

In general, nylon materials can have a tendancy to absorb moisture. However, NYCAST® 12 is a solution that provides the characteristics of nylon paired with extremely low moisture absorption. NYCAST® 12 offers an excellent choice for high speed wheel and roller applications and it is popular in power transmission components for material handling and transportation environments, structurall enclosure elements in electronic and manufacturing equipment.
