DuPont™ Vespel® SP-1 Rod
DuPont™ Vespel® SP-1 is a high-performance polyimide material that combines the physical properties of ceramic, metal and plastic into one material. Vespel® polyimide is lighter than metal, provides excellent high temperature resistance and wear resistance, and is self-lubricating for use in high demand applications.
Unlike other thermoplastics, Vespel® does not have a melting point and maintains its mechanical properties in operating temperatures ranging from cryogenic to 300°C (570°F) continuous. Vespel® Polyimide’s superior mechanical properties, chemical resistance and wear resistance makes it a popular choice for aerospace, farming, semiconductor processing, automotive, industrial and transportation applications.
Vespel® SP polyimide Rod is produced from advanced polymers developed by DuPont. SP-1 is an unfilled Vespel® available in rod and sheet options in a range of standard and cut-to-size options. Vespel® polyimide is widely known and a popular material choice because it provides superior wear and delivers long term performance under extreme operating conditions.
Vespel® SP-1 also has low electrical conductivity, excellent thermal insulation properties and performs well in vacuum applications. It also possesses the highest elongation and purity of the entire SP line of materials. Vespel® SP-1 is a high-performance polyimide that is lightweight, low wear and low friction. Because it provides high load resistance for use with high shaft speeds, Vespel® is a suitable material for use in for bearings and other high load applications. Vespel® SP-1 has also been tested to perform in environments where there is exposure to radiation, making it useful for remote handling and other automated equipment in environments where there is significant radiation exposure.
